I think Philadelphia was written more to get the attention of people at the time it was made. There was such mass hysteria over the subject at the time, and it really took people by the head and made them face up and listen. I liked it, but then I watched it way back then. *shrug* I have it, and have never watched it since the first time. So, I dunno.

OMG! YOu just saw Schindler's List?? Didn't I suggest that to you years ago?! Ah well...it's a kick ass movie. Even the parts ya bawl over. Yea. I cried. Knowing it's true, changes everything.

I haven't seen Platoon, so I can't say anything about the movie. But I'd have to disagree about war bringing out the worst in people. The causes of war are usually examples of the worst in people, but often war brings out the best in people who go through it. Yes, there are some atrocities, but there are also people sacrificing themselves for others and for higher principles. People who would otherwise be getting themselves sloshed in some bar and punching random strangers in the face are out there fighting to better life for everyone on the planet and laying down their life to save people they'll never even meet. I'd say war brings out both extremes, the best and worst in people. That's what this horrible life is all about. You need hate to have love, pain to have joy, and loss to appreciate what you have.
